Online Betting Demographics: Who is using what app?

Here at Lab42, we love diving deep into data, uncovering patterns, and sharing our valuable insights. Recently, we've turned our attention to the quickly expanding world of online sports betting, specifically focusing on the three main players – FanDuel, DraftKings, and BetMGM. We were curious: Are there any discernible differences between the users of these platforms?

Our in-house research provided us with some intriguing trends. Let's share a few highlights:

  • FanDuel seems to appeal to a mature demographic. In fact, 22% of its users are above 55, with a significant 27% identifying as African American.

  • DraftKings, interestingly, skews towards a male and younger demographic – 62% of its users are male and around 34% are aged 34 or younger.

  • BetMGM draws a slightly different crowd. A majority of their users – 60%, to be precise – fall into the 35-54 age group. Plus, we found that 20% identify as Hispanic.

These insights are directional and provide a fascinating snapshot of the unique user base of each platform. Please consider these findings as such, given that the sample base sizes of the three sites ranged between N=55 to N=118.
