As we move to close the book on 2023 and welcome 2024, we’re excited to share our recent“Findings from the Lab”. In addition to completing several eye-opening research projects for our clients, we also conducted our own research studies to better understand major trends and shifts. 2023 Holiday Shopping Insights for Marketers, Retailers, and Brands

Overall spending this year looks to remain steady or decrease from last year’s levels. Our blog post includes several tangible ideas marketers and retailers can implement to boost their holiday sales.

The Super-Early Birds: A Unique Breed Holiday Shoppers

Our analysis identified a subgroup of early holiday shoppers–super-early bird shoppers–who began their holiday shopping in late summer/early fall, and the data shows that this group plans on spending more than those who did not start shopping yet.

An Uneven Future: Ethnic Disparities on Generative AI  

Concerns about AI threats to the future of work vary by race. Hispanics (34%) and African Americans (36%) are much more concerned that AI may end up taking over their jobs than White/Caucasian respondents (23%).


Upcoming Research

  • We are focusing our next internal research on applying the Jobs to be Done framework to the plant based meat-alternatives market, looking to better understand how these products are meeting consumer needs.

  • Another internal initiative will analyze quality in online sample and identify the challenges and how to combat and mitigate bots and fraudulent responses from tarnishing your data integrity.

Jon Pirc

Jon has spent his professional career as an entrepreneur and is constantly looking to disrupt traditional industries by using new technologies. After working at Sandbox Industries as a ‘Founder in Residence’, Jon founded Lab42 in 2010 as a way to make research more accessible to smaller companies. Jon has a Bachelor’s of Science in Psychology from Northern Illinois University.
